This jackfruit season, try not to shy away from getting your hands dirty. Grease your palms, and your sharpest knife, with coconut or mustard oil and cut one down the middle. Or of course, you could just get your local vegetable vendor to do the scut work for you. There are rewards aplenty with this jack-of-all-fruits. You can eat it as a fragrant fruit, as a vegetable, you can eat the seed, and if you have some imagination, it can even go undercover as meat. Here are a few easy-peasy recipes for you to try out at home.

1. A tropical Pineapple-Jackfruit Smoothie to beat the heat.

What you need:
1. 1/2 cup jackfruit
2. 1/2 banana, peeled
3. 1/2 cup pineapple, cubed
4. 3 cups fresh baby spinach
5. 250 ml. of coconut water

What to do:
Put it in a blender, and blend till it looks like a smoothie!

What you need:
1. 2.5 cups of raw jackfruit
2. BBQ Sauce

What to do:
1. Cut out the core of the jackfruit. Shred into a bowl.
2. Add the BBQ sauce to your liking.
3. Cover and place in the fridge to marinate for 1 hour.
4. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon oil. Add jackfruit and cook till it's done, stirring frequently. Remove from heat.
5. Serve BBQ jackfruit pulled pork on a bun with lettuce, onion, tomato, coleslaw, or whatever you want. That's it!

What you need:
1. 3 cups of steamed jackfruit seeds
2. 1 onion, thinly sliced
3. 3 to 4 Garlic cloves, finely chopped
4. 1 tsp. Red chilli powder
5. 1/2 tsp. Turmeric powder 
6. 1/2 tsp. Coriander Powder
7. 1/2 tsp. Cumin powder
8. 1/2 tsp. Mustard seeds
9. 1/4 cup Fresh coconut, grated
10. Salt, to taste
11. 2 tbsps. cooking oil

What to do:
1. Start by steaming the jackfruit seeds. Once steamed remove the outer skin of the seeds.
2. Slice the jackfruit seeds into halves and keep aside in a bowl.
3. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and allow them to crackle.
4. Add the onions, garlic and sauté for a few minutes on medium heat until the onions are tender. Stir in the sliced steamed jackfruit seeds into the onion mixture.
5. Add the remaining spices and salt, sprinkle a little water, stir to combine and cover the pan with the lid.
6. Cook the seeds over low heat for few more minutes. Open the lid and check the seeds to see if they are done. Turn off the heat. Add the grated coconut and stir to combine.

4. And finally, Jackfruit & Tapioca Pearl (Sago) in Coconut Milk, a Thai dessert to warm the heart.

What you need:
1. 1 big bowl full of ripe jackfruit, sliced
2. 4 tbsp. of tapioca pearls (sago)
3. 1 can of good quality coconut milk
4. 1/3 cup of sugar
5. A pinch of salt
6. ½ tsp. pure vanilla extract

What to do:
1. Add the tapioca pearls (sago) to boiling water. Cook for 2-3 minutes then simmer for another 10 minutes or until the pearls turns translucent (no whites). Stir occasionally so they don't stick.
2. Add the coconut milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and pinch of salt. Cook for about 5-7 minutes. Keep stirring.
4. Turn the heat down low until the sauce thickens. Stir occasionally so that it doesn't stick to the bottom.
5. Add the jackfruit slices
6. Taste and adjust the sweetness to your preference. Turn off the heat.

Serve warm, or cold.

Pro tip 1: you could even add fresh mangoes into the desert once it cools down for an extra kick of yum.
Pro tip 2: Replace the sugar with jaggery for a healthier option.
