Exploring Love and Heartbreak with Milan Vohra on #spotlightwithsandhya

Is there life and love after heartbreak? Author Milan Vohra sits down with Sandhya Mendonca to unpack love and loss and the stories in her book ‘Heartbreak Unfiltered’

Milan Vohra, known as the Guru of Love, joins us to share her journey through the complexities of love, loss, and the process of writing about these profound experiences. In her latest work, ‘Heartbreak Unfiltered’ Milan explores the stories of heartbreak that resonate across ages and cultures.

The Journey of a Romance Writer

Milan began her career in romance by participating in a contest to become the first Indian author for Mills and Boon. Her novel *Love Asana* caught readers’ attention and established her presence in the literary world. She reflects on how her experiences and observations of relationships fueled her writing and update of the story as “Head Over Heels’.

“It was fun to rewrite that woman almost 10 years later…”, says Milan adding that the journey wasn’t just about romance but also about giving her characters more agency, especially in the wake of the #MeToo movement. Milan emphasizes the importance of crafting stories that reflect the realities of modern relationships, allowing her characters to assert themselves in a world that often tries to define them.

The Weight of Heartbreak

After years of writing about love, Milan felt compelled to represent the other side—the stories of heartbreak. Her book, *Heartbreak Unfiltered*, is a collection of real stories gathered over a decade, showcasing the raw and honest experiences of love lost.

She underscores the universal nature of heartbreak, stating that it transcends age, nationality, and gender. Milan’s deep dive into these stories reveals how they serve as a unifying force, connecting people through shared experiences of loss and healing.  “You can’t appreciate the glorious part of love if you haven’t been on the downside of it.”

Sandhya asks what love means in today’s world, especially in an era filled with ghosting and other modern dating pitfalls. Milan says she holds onto the belief that vulnerability and trust are essential components of true love, despite the chaos around us.

Their conversation reminds us that love stories are not just about the happy endings but also about the journeys that shape them. Her commitment to amplifying diverse voices in her work is a testament to the shared human experience of love and loss. To explore more insights, listen to the full episode.
